Mobile anchor points

What is a mobile anchor point?

A mobile anchor point is fixed by its own weight, i.e. it is not permanently mounted in a specific position. The mobile anchor point can therefore be quickly moved to another location or stowed away again after use. In addition, damage to the roof membrane is much less likely with a mobile anchor point.

Due to its temporary positioning, the mobile anchor point offers greater flexibility than fixed anchor points and therefore closes the gap to the lifeline systems, which offer a very high degree of flexibility.

Advantages of mobile anchor points

Depending on the roof and application, the implementation of full fall protection can quickly become complex. If you also want to design fall protection systems flexibly to give the roof worker more freedom, you should use guardrails. If guardrails cannot be used, lifeline systems are still suitable. However, these can also be oversized if regular access to the roof is not required.

To save costs and remain flexible, you can therefore use a mobile anchor point. As it does not need to be installed, it can be easily moved to a new position on the flat roof after use. Only the load weights need to be removed.

Of course, this procedure is not suitable for flat roofs where it is foreseeable that work will be carried out regularly or where several people have to work independently of each other. The mobile anchor point therefore remains a good emergency solution.

Mobile anchor points can also be used as components for rope systems. For example, they can be used to create corners and curves or stabilize longer straight sections.

How does a mobile anchor point work?

The function of load-supported anchor points is analogous to the principle of load-supported guardrails

The mobile anchor point is mounted on a type of “sheet metal trough”, which must be loaded with either weighted plates (e.g. paving slabs) or gravel. The weight of the load causes gravity to act on the flat roof, stabilizing the mobile anchor point in its position. If you now rope yourself to the mobile anchor point using a lanyard and personal protective equipment, a dangerous fall can be intercepted or, depending on the design, prevented.

To protect the weights from weathering, an optional cover can be fitted to this “metal tray”.
